A Snail’s Pace, 2017, and More
What in the world have we been up to?
It’s been a little while since our last update on the blog, January 5, in fact. We promised an exciting 2017, but where have we been?
Oh hey, you’re still reading. I’ll go ahead and tell you.
In December of last year, we posted this little teaser:
And now that we’re in March of 2017 maybe we’ll be ready to tell you what that’s all about. But first, let’s talk Q1 2017.
One of the things we’ve discovered in the last couple months of silence is that running a business is hard. In fact, we’ve joked more than once about how maybe we should just change our company motto to that. So the last few months have been dealing with some of the normal business woes and figuring out how our business structure works best for us. But all that stuff is really boring. We’re here to talk games, books, and our future.
If you’ve remotely followed us on social media, you’ve no doubt seen something about Frosthammer. Frosthammer is a short story that releases today, if you’ve signed up for our newsletter.
Okay, wait, why is a tabletop gaming company releasing a book? Have you no identity?! I’m so glad you asked. At Pround Games, creativity is our heartbeat. We want to be able to craft things, build things, weave narratives, and make things. Our identity is in the making.
In November of last year, we began developing the game we wanted to produce next. It was a simple take-that kind of game with basic mechanics and a super short premise. When we started developing the theme further, the premise of the game kept growing and growing. Before we knew it, we had characters with backstories and an entirely new nation with a fascinating history and expansive geography.
When we took a step back and looked at the world we had begun crafting, two things became apparent: we need a bigger, denser game to go with the rich mythology, and we needed a way to tell these fantastic stories. The Legend of Varya will be those stories, starting with Frosthammer.
Frosthammer is the first story to be released set in this new exciting universe. In this short story, we introduce two main characters, Durmgir and Mortalan, and really set the stage for what has led up to the land of Aeda being the way it is. We see some of the landmarks one may find around Aeda, including the Istorfell Mountains and Chastel Ichil, and wind a journey that will (at the risk of sounding dramatic) literally change the face of Aeda forever.
Frosthammer is available today for those who have signed up to our newsletter. (You can click here to do so). This short story will be available everywhere eBooks are sold on April 7th.
With some world building and mythology in place, we are now ready to craft a deep, yet approachable tabletop gaming experience.
Announcing Varya Spellmasters, the next tabletop gaming installment from Pround Games. We have been brainstorming and balancing and playing with this game for a few months now, and have recently started in-house playtesting our first prototype. Spellmasters allows you to become characters from both Frosthammer and upcoming Legend of Varya stories. Players will quest through the land of Aeda, defeating foes, clearing dungeons, crafting spells, and gathering valuable rewards racing to be the first Spellmaster to finish the quest track.
